On July 7, the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries (NMBCH) elected Serenity Richard to be the Executive Director of the ministry. Richard had been serving as the Interim Executive Director since January 2022.
The Board believes that the Lord has prepared Richard for this significant role by giving her the heart and experience needed to lead this ministry. NMBCH anticipates opening the new campus in Estancia in the near future. The Board appreciates the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm that Richard brings to lead NMBCH into this next chapter.
Ministering to children and families has been a major focus of Richard’s life. She has served in a variety of children’s ministry roles for over 23 years. She and her husband, Scott, served as foster parents in Louisiana before moving to New Mexico. Also, while in Louisiana, Richard served as Children’s Ministry Director in her home church. They have served at NMBCH for ten years. For the last five years, Richard has served in an administrative role at NMBCH.
“I am so thankful to our Board of Directors for their trust and confidence. For over a hundred years, New Mexico Baptists have been bringing the hope of Christ to hurting children and families through the ministry of NMBCH and I'm very proud to be a part of this legacy. As we look towards the future, we believe the answer to the challenges facing the next generation is the gospel,” stated Richard.
The Richards have one grown son, Jarren. They are active members of First Baptist Church of Portales.
NMBCH has been the partner ministry for New Mexico Baptists to minister to children and families since 1919.
